ESG and Responsible Mining
Standards, closure and the accountability of extraction.
A crowded landscape of ESG standards, assurance schemes and disclosure regimes now surrounds mining. This vertical asks which of these mechanisms actually change practice on the ground, across the whole mine life cycle: consent and community engagement at the start, tailings and environmental stewardship in operation, and closure, relinquishment and post-mining transition at the end.
The research question
Which standards and assurance mechanisms actually change mining practice on the ground, from consent to closure?
